CHAPTER ONE

 

  • BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

When we talk of management it is said to be the coordination of all the resources of an organization through the process of planning, organizing, directing and controlling in order to attain organizational goals and objectives.

 

To manage is not an easy task, hence management in most organization is fraught with problems; this affects the efficiency of the management of such organizations. If anyone should per a list to any of the Nigerian organizations it will convince one of their lack of managerial and technical knowhow in such establishment. Indiscipline, authoritarian leadership reign supreme, so much the situation gets worse as one gets to the lower level of the organization hierarchy. In most organizations especially government stands it has been that of entrepreneurial function instead of managerial. This project became necessary to investigate and also organize hierarchy that tend to act as deferent rather than facilitate decision making that is why it is necessary to investigate the causes, effects and possible solution to the problems associated with poor management in an organization.

 

  • STATEMENT OF PROBLEM

The problem of poor management in an organization is a cry in the wheel of growth and effectiveness in most of these organizations. Management is a field that encompasses a lot of managerial activities aimed at efficient utilization of man, material and money with a view of achieving their desired goal with. However, a clear picture of lack of managerial knowhow, indiscipline and authoritian leadership style reign supreme, resources are poorly utilized when organizational policies act as deterrent rather than facilitators decision makers.

 

In most organizations especially government owned organizations these problems appears to be more pronounced and their effect have always had untold hardship in the effectiveness and efficiency of management in such organizations. It is therefore in the light of the foregoing problems that aroused the interest to study with a view of finding the causes, effects and possible solutions to give.

 

  • STATEMENT OF OBJECTIVE

The purpose of this study is to find out the causes and effects of poor management in an organization.

  1. Identifying the core problems that have been hindering operations, effectiveness and efficiency of the organization.
  2. To identify the effective and efficient utilization of all resources both human and material in nature.
  • To look at the contribution of appointment of the executive position in the organization and seek remedies where necessary.
  1. To serve as resource information of signal to the organization in their effort to revamping its own establishment. This is so because prevention they say is better than cure.
  2. Finally, to proffer suggestive solutions to the problems of poor management where necessary.

  • NEEDS AND SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The importance of management cannot be overemphasized. This study is important owing to the fact that it will create a base for organizations to determine how to manage their establishment in order to reduce poor growth and bring about good growth and development in the organization, society and nation at large.

 

  • LIMITATION AND DELIMITATION OF THE STUDY

During the course of this research, the researcher was faced with some limitations and delimitations of the study which are:

  1. Time Factor: The period within which this work was expected was to be contended with.
  2. Financial Constraint: As a student, the researcher faced the problem of sourcing the materials, high expenses incurred together with the biting economic situation made it difficult.
  • Data Sourcing: Lack of maximum 10-operation from some staff of the case study in the provision of necessary information while writing this project also contributed as one of the limitations of this study.

 

  • DEFINITION OF TERMS

To carry out this particular project, there are some terms that need to be discussed below:

  1. Management: The process which enables organizations to achieve their objective by planning, organizing and controlling their resources including joining the commitment of their employers (motivation).
  2. Effect: The result or outcome of a cause or the cause of the poor management.

  1. Effective: The extent to which a manager achieves the outcome or output requirement of his position.
  2. Control: The process of making event; control to planning
  3. Analysis: The process of breaking down information into smaller identification unit.
  • Objective: The aim or goal of a business
  • Effective Management: These seek to solve problems and reduce cost.
  1. Organization: The process of grouping, deliberating lines of authority and other relationship necessary to carry out the operations of a business efficiently.
