CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

  • Background to the Study

The effect of inadequate infrastructure on the growth and development of local churches in Nigeria is a topic that has been explored by several researchers. In addition, the lack of adequate water supply in these churches poses a significant challenge. Water is a basic necessity for any institution, and its absence can affect the smooth running of church activities. For instance, the lack of water can affect the cleanliness of the church premises, thereby making it unattractive to members and visitors (Adeyemi, 2017).

Moreover, the lack of proper building structures also affects the growth and development of local churches in Nigeria. Many churches operate in makeshift structures that are not conducive for worship. These structures are often uncomfortable and can discourage members from attending church services (Ogbonnaya, 2018).

The problem of inadequate infrastructure is further compounded by the lack of financial resources to address these challenges. Many local churches in Nigeria lack the financial capacity to provide these basic amenities, thereby hindering their growth and development (Adeyemi, 2017).

The problem of inadequate infrastructure significantly affects the growth and development of local churches in Nigeria.   2. To identify the specific types of infrastructure that are most lacking in the local churches.
  3. To assess the correlation between the level of infrastructure development and the rate of growth and development of local churches in the Irepo region.
  4. To propose potential solutions or strategies that local churches can adopt to mitigate the effects of inadequate infrastructure on their growth and development.
  5. To evaluate the role of government and other stakeholders in improving infrastructure in the local churches.

  • Research Questions

The following research questions were stated for the study:

  1. How does inadequate infrastructure affect the growth and development of local churches in the Irepo region of Oyo State?
  2. What specific types of infrastructure are most lacking in the local churches in the Irepo region of Oyo State?
  3. Is there a correlation between the level of infrastructure development and the rate of growth and development of local churches in the Irepo region of Oyo State?
  4. What potential solutions or strategies can local churches adopt to mitigate the effects of inadequate infrastructure on their growth and development in the Irepo region of Oyo State?
  5. What is the role of government and other stakeholders in improving infrastructure in the local churches in the Irepo region of Oyo State?

  • Research Hypothesis

The hypothetical statement of the study is buttressed below:

Ho: Inadequate infrastructure has no effect on the growth and development of local churches.

H1: Inadequate infrastructure has effect on the growth and development of local churches.

  • Significance of the Study

The significance of studying the effect of inadequate infrastructure on the growth and development of local churches in the Irepo region of Oyo State is multifaceted. Firstly, it provides a comprehensive understanding of the challenges that these churches face due to the lack of proper infrastructure. This could range from the absence of good roads for easy transportation to the lack of electricity, which could hinder the smooth running of church activities.   • Scope of the Study

The study examines the Effect of Inadequate Infrastructure on Growth and Development of Location Churches in Irepo Region of Oyo State. The study is restricted to selected Location Churches in Irepo Region of Oyo State.

 Operational Definition of Terms

Effect: In the context of this study, “effect” refers to the impact or consequence that one variable or factor (in this case, inadequate infrastructure) has on another (the growth and development of location churches). It’s about understanding the cause-and-effect relationship between different elements.

Inadequate Infrastructure: This term refers to the lack of sufficient or appropriate physical and organizational structures, facilities, and services needed for the operation of a society or enterprise. In the context of location churches, this could include buildings, roads, power supplies, water and sanitation facilities, communication technologies, etc.

Growth: In the context of location churches, “growth” could refer to an increase in the number of church members, the number of services or programs offered, the size of the church’s physical facilities, or the church’s influence within the community or region.

Development: This term is often used to refer to the process of improving the conditions of a community, organization, or society over time.
