CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.0     Introduction

This chapter tends to introduce the necessary details concerning this research projects, it is categorized in the following other; the theoretical background the statement of the problem, aims and objective of the study, significance of the study, scope of the study, organization of the research and finally the definition of terms. This will bring clarity to the readers and users of the system as it regards “Mobile phone registration system”.

1.1     Theoretical Background

Effective mobile phone registration and allocation of telephone numbers to various individual has been a major source of challenge to most telecommunication companies in the country. Mobile phone registration system is a computerized system that facilitates the registration of mobiles phone after purchases by individual. The system tend to replace the old fashioned, paper-based methods tends to be both cumbersome and inefficient Mckay, John 92014). They can also be deployed as client/ server configurations if need be. Today, most next generation property mobile phone registration system favours web and cloud technology and offer their software to clients using a software as a service model. Mobile phone registration system is used by telecommunication, local, state and federal authorities, since these authorities hold and manage the general data of the populace. Mobile phone numbers is a unique series of numbers in telecommunication us to call or communicate after dialing number of the recipients phone. Telecommunication is the science and practice of transmitting information by electromagnetic means. Communication means talking to someone or thing not necessarily through technological means. However, telecommunication if talking through technological means which are phones or phoning, internet, radio, etc. in earlier times, telecommunication involves the use of visual signals, such as beacons, smokes signals, semaphore telegraphs, signal flags, and optical heliographs, or audio messaging such as code drum beats, lung blown horn, and loud whistle. In modern times, telecommunication involves the use of electrical devices such as telegraphs, telephone, tele printers, as well as the use of microwave communications, fiber optics and their associated electronics, plus the use of orbital satellites and the internet. A revolution in wireless communication began in 1900s with pioneering development  in wireless radio communication by Nikola Tesla. Other pioneering in vendors includes Charles Wheatstone and Samuel Morse.

1.2     Statement of the Problem

The problems encountered when registering mobile phones includes;

  1. Misplacement of critical records of individual’s property.
  2. The absence of effective storage mechanism and security for these records.
  • The delay in time duration used in registering particular mobile phones.
  1. The existing system is too stressful and inconvenience to the administrators.
  2. The absence of good user interface of the manual system since it is more of pen and paper

1.3     Aims and Objective of the Study

The aim of this study is to develop a mobile phone registration system. Its objective includes:

  1. To design a system that will allow telecommunication companies register user of mobile phones with ease.
  2. To create a system that will eliminate the huge crowd and queue usually experienced at the point of registration
  • To design system that will create more convenience to the administrators or users of the system.
  1. To implement a system that will help refurbish the general process of telecommunication.

1.4     Significance of the Study

The significance of the study includes:

  1. Reducing the level of insecurity since each data of a user is captured effectively.
  2. Helping to increase the level of revenue generation to both mobile phone distributors and telecommunication companies since there is free flow of activities and more subscribers and users of phones.
  3. Improving the level of convenience experienced in the registration process
  4. Improving the quick retrieval of records and information of phone users.

1.5     Scope of the Research

The scope of this research covers the development of a mobile phone registration system, with reference to TECNO Stand, Ikot Ekpene. It will be used in registering the details of mobile phones and the users as well. It can equally generate phone numbers after registration.

1.6     Organization of the Research

Below are the organizations of this research project:

The first chapter stats with the introduction, theoretical background, followed by the  statement of problem, aims and objectives of the study, significance of the study, organization of the research and definition of terms.

The second chapter is focused on the review of related literature as made available by other researchers.

Chapter three which is the third one is concerned with the system analysis and design which are: Research Methodology, System Analysis, and Analysis of the Existing Stem, Problem of the Existing System, and Analysis of the proposed System. Also include are; Advantages of the proposed System, Disadvantages of the Propose System, System Design, Input Layout, Progaram Flowchart, and Output Format.

The fourth chapter reveals the system implementation and documentation which are system design diagram, choice of program language, analysis of modules, programming environment, hardware/software requirement and implementation.

Chapter five which is the last in this research contains constraints of the study, summary, conclusion, and recommendation.

1.7     Definition of Terms

Circuit: A route around which electric current can flow, beginning and ending at the same point

Subscription: An agreement to pay for and receive or use something over a fixed period of time.

Switchboard: A manually operated device for interconnecting telephone lines and routing telephone calls, usually within a telephone exchanges or in a work place, or large building.

Transmit: To communicate a message, information or news over a telecommunication media.

Wire line: Operating or transmitting by means of a connecting wire, as opposed to using a wireless system.
